It’s a long and lonely night shift on the gomer floor
I’m assigned to 13 patients and they’re sending me 4 more
Half are ordered on percussion and their nebs are all at least Q4

I don’t know how much of a workload they think that I can do
But I’m oh so very tired and I think I’ve got the flu
And its gonna take forever ‘til this awful shift is through

And there it is going off again

Well I don’t mind a larger than normal workload
But I don’t think it’s right that I have to go to every code
And I know that it’s nobody’s fault but I just want to explode

Every night I want to do the best job I can
When the shift starts I sit down and figure out a plan
But it isn’t long before I have left the frying pan

Every time I think I should update my resume
A regular comes in and I know I have to stay
‘Cause I couldn’t bear not knowing if they really are okay

When the shift is ending and I’m feeling almost dead
And I’m looking forward to going home and crawling in bed
The first chance I have to sit down I’ll hear that sound I dread
