THE 12 STEPS OF REHAB

Based on “The 12 Days Of Christmas” author(s) unknown

For the first step of rehab I learned absolutely
My addiction controls me

For the second step of rehab I learned absolutely
A Great Power
Can restore sanity to me

For the third step of rehab I learned absolutely
To turn my
Life and my will
Over to God and He’ll help me

For the fourth step of rehab I learned absolutely
That I should take
An honest
Inventory
Of things that need changing in me

For the fifth step of rehab I learned absolutely
That I need to
Admit to God
And myself
And someone else
The nature of my wrongdoings

For the sixth step of rehab I learned absolutely
That I was ready
To ask God to
Remove all of
These defects
Of character
So I can become a new me

For the seventh step of rehab I learned absolutely
With great humility
Ask the Lord if He
Would remove all
These shortcomings
So that I
Can reach my goal
Of becoming addiction free

For the eighth step of rehab I learned absolutely
That it was time to
Make a list of people
I have done harm to
So one day I
Might have the strength
In the Lord
To make amends
And hope that they will forgive me

For the ninth step of rehab I learned absolutely
That it was time to
Make direct contact
With all of the people
That I have listed
And make amends
When possible
Except if
It injures them
Or other innocent parties
For the tenth step of rehab I learned absolutely
That I needed to
Continue taking
An inventory
Of all my shortcomings
And if I am wrong
I must promptly
Make admission
To myself
And those involved
So I may continue growing

For the eleventh step of rehab I learned absolutely
By using meditation
And praying daily
Hopefully I will
Improve my conscious
Contact with my Savior
As I perceive Him
Praying only
For knowledge of
His true will
And the power
To carry out His plans for me

For the twelfth step of rehab I learned absolutely
I have achieved a
Spiritual awakening
Because of these steps
And now I will strive
To spread this message
As often as I’m able
To other addicts
And always try
To practice these
Principles
In my affairs
And I thank God for saving me

These are the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous:

1.; We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable.
2.; Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3.; Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.      4.; Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5.; Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6.; Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7.; Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8.; Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9.; Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10.; Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11.; Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12.; Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
