Respiratory Rhapsody

Based on "Bohemian Rhapsody" written by Freddie Mercury

Most my adult life I've worked Respiratory
Having a grand time helping patients and family
But each sunrise brings a new surprise or three
I'm not out whining looking for sympathy
But I would like all of you to know
How our days sometimes go
So I hope you will know
What it's like to be in R.C.
R.C.

Each day you form a plan
Write your treatments down in red
Match each patient to his bed
Then as your day's just begun
You get a page and you are called away
So then you give another thing a try
And think about how you'll be off tomorrow
Having fun in the sun while avoiding sputum splatters

Too late the trays have come
The lady in room nine eats for hours at a time
Looks like everybody is off the floor
Having X-Rays EKGs or getting nuked
So then you (that's the way the day goes)
Give your rounds a try
And hope flow meters don't fly out of the wall

Each ventilator's working on a different plan
IMV CMV PSV and a bipap
And they're all alarming driving the nurses crazy
First low pressure then low volume
Next high pressure then high volume
How much louder can they go (God only knows)

I'm just one person working like crazy
He's just one person doing the work of three
And the boss won't approve any O.T.

The C.T. crew has called and they want to know
How long before the head scan is a go
I don't know
The order is from two days ago
Yes I know
The patient is still too touch and go
Touch and go
Blood pressure's too low
It's too low
Tell them we can't go
No no no no no no no

Oh mama mia momma mia
Right now I have got to go
E.R just called and they need Albuterol times three
Times three times three

So you think it's a wonder that every day I
Work so hard helping patients that might up and die
Oh baby let me tell you this baby
You'll never get me out
You never will get me out of here
Oh yeah oh yeah
This is all that matters
Now listen to me
Being an R.R.T.
Means the entire world
To me

That's the way the day goes
