Bosses come and go, but the one we had before Rich
was quite unique. Carole came to us in a controversy not unlike that which
surrounded George W.’s entrance into office. First of all, she was not a
hospital employee – she ran the system owned home care company. Second,
she had briefly worked for us in an on-call status, and she was rather
timid (although quite capable) in the critical care area. Lastly, she was
“only” a C.R.T.T. It was the majority opinion of the department that there
were people already working in the department that were at least as, if
not more, qualified for the job. Well, sometimes the folks in
Administration get it right. As a boss, Carole turned out to be
spectacular. As a human being, she was even more so. She left us after
four years to go to work for a large D.M.E. company, and we were all sorry
to see her go. However, after two years she returned to the system as the
manager of the Center for Women’s Health. When we notified her of the web
site, the first thing she said was how much she loved it. She then
lamented the fact that the stuff about her wasn’t included. So we would
like to present you with the 2 works that were done in her honor. The
first piece is the poem that was written for her on her last day of work
as the Director of Respiratory Care. The four of us sat together at shift
report and brainstormed topics and rhymes, and then Greg put it all
together. The second piece is the song that we created for her return to
the health system. We had intended to unveil it at one of our
“presentations,” but we were unable to find a MIDI file for the song
anywhere on the web. That taught us an important lesson – scan before you
plan. The one thing that is nice about this number is that we were able to
match the original song rhyme-for-rhyme, something we try to do as much as
possible. So we now present, and hope you enjoy, Kudos to Carole!
CAROLE’S ROAST
Written by Dave Howard,
Charlie Meyette, Shelly Stanfield, & Greg Wray
So here it is, the tenth of May-
Carole T.B.’s last working day.
So we thought we would take the time
To talk about her work – in rhyme.
At first we all were mortified-
“My God, she’s only Certified!”
That’s what we all were heard to say.
Especially that bum Greg Wray.
But soon we all began to feel
The right person was at the wheel.
Much needed changes came to be-
The miracle of Q.I.P.
Committees sprang up everywhere
To help deliver patient care.
No stone at all was left unturned.
And in the process, we all learned.
The blood gas lab began to shine.
We got new vents, boy they were fine!
And we must say it was a ball
Starting the 02 protocol.
Communication was the key-
A fair open door policy.
People would often come to see her
To share with her a new idear.*
The work was hard, it’s very true.
But fun and laughter were there too.
The now infamous wheelchair race-
And constant talk of touching base.
We saw the start of many lives.
People became husbands and wives.
We even saw a comrade fall-
She deftly led us through it all.
And so as we all say goodbye;
We’ll try not to break down and cry.
Symbolically we hug and kiss her-
To let her know how much we’ll miss her.
P.S. we tried to fit in Snuffy-**
But it turned out to be too tuffy.
*No, this is not a misprint. Carole was born on the
west coast, and she frequently adds a final R to her words. We used to
give her all sorts of grief, but she just couldn’t control herself.

BACK IN THE SYSTEM
Based on “Back In The
Saddle” written by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry
<if you know of a midi file for this song,
please let us know>
She’s back
She’s back in the system again
She’s back
She’s back in the system again
Got to say our mind was blown
Couple years ago June
When she abdicated her throne
For Apria’s cocoon
Often times we would think
And breathe a heavy sigh
But now we feel in the pink
And here’s the reason why
She’s back in the system again
She’s back
She’s back in the system again
She’s back
She got all of us to unite
To get the work done
She gave us a unique insight
And made employment fun
She put R.C. on the map
Forever more
Now she’ll see to it all the paps
Get the right score
We both think it is fine
And you surely bet
Women’s center will shine
We’re glad she could get
Back
She’s back in the system again
She’s back
She’s back in the system again
We’re happy
Because we really missed her
We’re happy
We love her like a sister
She’s climbing
Back up the corporate ladder
She’s climbing
Her registry don’t matter
She’s back
She’s back in the system again
She’s back
She’s back in the system again
Flying high
